Walang humpay na ligaya

I

Hindi ko lubos akalain

Na sa isang iglap ikay magiging akin

Sapagkat ika’y sa kanya

At kay hirap mong makasama

II

Magkalayo man tayo ikaw parin ang tanging hinahanap
Bawat araw sa akin ay natupad na pangarap
Sa tuwing tayo’y nagkikita at magkaharap

IV

IX

I will come again, Camiguin!

A transgender traveler to the majestic Island in Mindanao, Camiguin!

Traveling has always been a great part of my life. Since i was young, i always wanted to become a stewardess or something that deals with traveling. I remember the time that me and my cousins playing before, we had some role playing that we are going to Boracay. Odd to think maybe but it is. Its my biggest dream.

Camiguin has brought my dreams into realization. I was just invited with my cousins to go for Fiesta . At first, i was just really hesitated to go with them because it would be my very first time to have long travel but my eagerness telling me to “pack your bag now jade! , this is going be so much fun!”

Then from there, you have to Find a Bus going to Baligoan Terminal, its where a ferry boat is located there to go Camiguin Port. cap

When i begun to have my first footstep in Camiguin, i was extremely amazed by the tranquil view and pristine crystal clear sea water from the port and that really crept my nerves and felt so excited for this adventure.

The people seems so very welcoming even we just live in the same region, locals there treat us like foreigners. They always great us “Maayong Buntag!” which means “Good Morning!”.

I noticed also that on their National highway, you cant see any garbage around, people also very discipline in terms of improving  their island, they obey street signs and noticed that the always clean the road.. We live at my Aunts house and it was a very nice accommodation, i tried living in a nipa house but too cold during at midnight. We learned to pitch water on the spring which just located beside seashore, people there dig hole on the seashore so fresh water will come out, and amazingly, water is not even salty and proven safe for consumption. Just the first day but full of learnings already.

IMG_4711e.jpg The Sunken Cemetery of Camiguin Island marks the swept remains of the island’s rested locals. Driven underwater when Mt. Vulcan Daan erupted in 1870’s, the large cross has served the town’s people, as well as the tourists, a scenic spot to memorialize the departed buried there.

Our first trip was that Sunken Cemetery, when i heard about it, i feel scared coz knowing we will go to an old cemetery but when i saw this view, WOAH! I said “Perfect! ” .Locals there let us lend their boat, but supposedly you have to pay them to send you to that big cross but its not too far, you just cant go there on your on coz the water is so deep, and when you look under the sea, you will see buried grave underwater. Amzing right? Selfies!

I think, as i remember i took thousands of selfies under that cross lol and amazed that locals there who took us in a boat would volunteer to take pics for you. They were very good on angles. So fun and excited for more.

Next top was the Old Church ruins in Bon Bon, Camiguin. The Old Church Ruins is located in Bonbon Catarman in Camiguin Island. Also known as Gui-ob Church, it was destroyed and partly submerged by volcanic debris during the eruption and formation of Mt. Vulcan from 1871 to 1875. The ruins of the church, bell tower  and the sunken cemetery remains of the old town.

The place was so calm and restful. You can hear the chirruping birds playing on those old tress. You just have to pay an entrance fee like P 15.00 pesos for their maintenance. I felt i was in that pre-colonial and Spaniards era. The  tress were so tall and so big. Its rumor that if you light candle and wish, it will do come true. Yay! I did! and it definately grant my wish! .

COVID 19 AND EDUCATION: CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES AND THE FUTURE OF LEARNING

ENTRY FOR “39TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY OF SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES COLLEGE (CAGAYAN DE ORO)” INTER DEPARTAMENTAL ESSAY WRITING CONTEST that won 2nd Place.

The new normal phase is indeed a fact of life. It comes with a lot of questions, does change is easy? Sudden and rapid change is the kind of life we are living through today. All of us knew that it is really hard but if we train ourselves to improve ourselves, then what’s hard becomes what’s easy.

In this trying times of uncertainties, one of the greatly affected sector of pandemic are the students. The COVID-19 introduced uncertainties into the major aspect of both national and global aspects including the schools. There is uncertainty about how schools impacted student’s achievements that greatly causes lots of setbacks and mental health issues.

The agony and prolonging challenges has been the burden of each students since this situation is unexpected. Aside from experiencing difficulties in learnings, we students experienced anxiety and depressions since this pandemic has started. Included fears and worries including their own health and love ones has resulted to difficulty of concentrations and drive. The distraction of sleeping patterns has observed that has decreased the social interactions of each learners. Recently, we heard on different local news stations about students who committed suicide due to stress over family and school.

Is this what we call new normal? How long are we going to suffer? How many lives has to lose in order to achieve changes? Who will amplify student’s voices for their concerns and worries? How will this situation ends?

As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month on October, I want to spread awareness to each and every learners like me who were struggling in this trying time of pandemic. Every challenges, fall-backs and uncertainties we go through in our daily lives serves as our guiding principle towards the summit of realization.

I just also hope that family members are also more considerate with what we go through because it is really not easy. We have task, activities, modules and assignments to fulfil that has to be submitted in a short period of time. We should not stress these learners with household task because we are bounded with both of our academic and household responsibilities. Yes! We can multi-task but not everyone has the capacity to do it.

Our peers, families and relatives should also understand the weight of what we are going through in this new normal phase. Despite that we are trying to be adaptive but every tick of the clock counts. Added stress from that is the internet connections since not everyone is blessed with high speed internet and fast connections.

As I have asked one of my classmate the other day, what stresses you in this new normal academic phase?  I was shocked with her response “the teacher!”

This made me realized that despite that you have high speed internet nor supportive family, it is always necessary to have a healthy and equitable learning ground for virtual students in this generations. Like your families, teachers should always be considerate as well with different mental capabilities and different status of life because I, first hand experienced the hardship of this new normal phase especially living in the rural area where you have to balance everything.

Our health especially our mental health is always our wealth. Despite the challenges and hardship we encounter in our daily lives, we should always see situations with a silver lining. Whatever we are going through right now, it doesn’t mean that we will going to be like this till we die because every circumstances has always its end. We should always look the brighter side of every aspects because at the end of the day, there’s always a rainbow after the rain.

Lastly, I also want to address to every students out there that what you are going through right now and how you are feeling right now is valid and you should always seek someone to talk to and share your thoughts and feelings with. An outlet where you can voice out your emotions and fears.

We should also not forget to ask guidance to our God, Almighty Father because he listens, he understands and most especially he finds and gives lights towards overcoming any adversities we are going through because I always believe that it is not the strongest of the species that survives not the most intelligent one, but only the one who is responsive and adaptive for change.

A trans perspective of Fashion

fashion-and-beauty-header.jpg

Everything you see around the world is greatly influenced with Fashion. Even before, the mode of fashion is evolving as time goes by. From Madonna to Paris Hilton today, those icons are now greatly influencing how we see and understand Fashion today.

Fashion is not just about having expensive dress or luxurious jewelries that you could wear and show people how you look. As a transgender, fashion for me is something that you feel good about yourself, that you are comfortable of what you are wearing and earn confidence to oneself.

As a teen, of course we tend to be conscious about how we look in public, even each and everyone of us feels also the same about it but nowadays teenager are more into the world of Fashion. Teens tends to copy the way how KPOPs and Hollywood actresses looks on screen, social medias like Facebook, Instagram and Twitters are the portal if you really want to see how Fashion works.

Its better to look good and feel good than being just normal, you don’t have to spend thousands of pesos just to be cool. Just as long as you feel good about yourself.
